THE Scottish Branch of the BS trophy show is always one to look forward to with a few senior and junior titles to be won over the two days.

Hosted by the Scottish National Equestrian Centre within Oatridge College this year did not disappoint with high numbers of entries and some late jumping.

Best of the seniors was 18year old Graham Babes who travelled from Kilmarnock to lay claim to two major titles on the one day.

New ride Verona XX had to produce a very fast jump off in the Scottish Young Riders class to stay ahead of the field especially with speed merchant Charlotte Geddes on Van De Bay Girl galloping flat out to try to catch him.

Despite their lack of mileage together Graham managed to steer this 14year old mare around keeping tight on the corners to secure his first win of the day.

Swapping onto his regular partner Boucheron Graham then set about beating his older counterparts in a strong Gentleman’s Championship. This was to be a perfect warm up for this talented young man who then went on to win the World Class Development class at the senior Premier and now heads off to Olympia for the final.

Having had to relinquish his Gents Champion crown of two years standing, Douglas Duffin made sure he claimed another title this time with Kirk Ritchie’s Colgravin H in the Scottish Grade C Championship.

This Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve 9year old mare found originally by Fiona Burgoyne’s Horse Choice business just outside Edinburgh, had a good Scottish Premier show before earning herself the Grade C title here then was heading off to Arena UK’s premier straight afterwards.

Laura Hutt has just missed out in the Ladies Championship in the last couple of years at this venue so it was good to see it all fall into place for her when her big chestnut Zidane hit form at the right time.

Following on from two wins at SHOYS this pair produced the quicker of just two double clears to snatch the title from Aberdeen rider Jodie Maher on her talented, home produced seven year old by Darius, Editor.

Proving completely unstoppable this season, Lucy Stewart earned herself yet another rug and sash following a win in the Amateur Championship only a few days before she heads south to Aintree for the Amateur Championship finals.

Thirteen double clears meant that the clock played a major part in the final results with Lucy absolutely flying with her own Con 3 to outpace David Harland who had two through but came closer to catching Lucy with Liz Smith’s Nux D’Amour and slotting into fourth with Suanne Lumgair’s Fauber leaving Heather Denholm on Bowes Warrington Walter in third in what was a very fast class.

There was no upsetting form in the junior ranks with Nicole Lockhead Anderson still the one to beat this time becoming crowned Scottish Central Champion on the evergreen 20 year old Cappagh Supreme.

Fresh from victory at South View a few weeks’ prior this air were the only ones to return a double clear this time taking the class and the title with an accurate and as usual well ridden clear.

This was Nicole’s second title of the show following on from her Scottish JC Indoor rug and sash which she won earlier in the day with the sole double clear on her latest ride, Little Red Cloud. Also a winner at South View this little coloured mare looks to be a handy addition to her string with several very good wins already despite having only been together a couple of months.

Shaunie Greig was having a last jump here before she headed off to have a successful show at Cavan, Ireland where all her ponies were in the money over the few days.

Drumaclan Flight accounted for a competitive class in Cavan but not before she was crowned Scottish Indoor 138cms champion at this venue jumping the only jump off clear.

Amy Morris is enjoying the ride on the Carpenter’s Telynau Royal Damask marking the start of their career together with a win in the 128cms Indoor Championship.

A welsh section B mare by Laithehill Allegro this little grey only started affiliated jumping three years ago rounding off her time with Iwan Carpenter with an appearance at HOYS this year.

Amy jumped double clear on both her ponies with Telynau Royal Damask just knocking the superstar Madonna off the podium with a quicker time to take the rug and sash on offer.

This was Amy’s second title of the day having claimed the Scottish 11 and unders on her own home produced Gelliniog Lorri, another Welsh pony known as Dinky at home due to the fact he stands a good 7cms below the 128cms mark.

A new ride for William Stewart saw him win the Scottish 11 & Under section B title with two other rides taking second and third.

Billibob, a 12 year old grey Irish bred pony has had a busy career in Ireland before joining William just a couple of months ago.

Recording double two double clears William took the title with Billibob whilst also securing money for being runner up on High Chaparral.

Dunfermline’s Kady Brogan has had the ride on the super grey 148cms My Best Buddy for a year now and happily tackled their biggest track to date to be the delighted winners of the Scottish New Recruits Final.

Winner of a 10 and under at South View recently, Jackson Stewart was runner up this time on the gorgeous little palomino and white, 128cms Miss Daisy D.
