The Scottish flag was flying in Mexico last week when our country’s own talent Scott Brash stormed home in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix.

Not only a Scottish rider but a Scottish bred and produced horse, Ursula making it doubly special.

Bred by John and Mary Turnbull and jumped to national Grand Prix level by their son Mark, this mare is now 17 but showed her class when out pacing a field of world class horses to give Scott his win for a second year at this venue.

Graham Babes continues to pick up the prizes in Vilamoura with his team of young horses jumping faultlessly to record age class wins including Ma Fleur JX, Carlingford On The Rocks and Glencoe.

At CSI3* level Boucheron is gaining world ranking points with several top 6 placings including a close second in a 1.45m section.

Patricia Fraser’s Cluedo was also second in a 1.35 with Farao M and Eccosse being there or thereabouts in 1.40m and 1.35m levels respectively.

A quick mention must go to Scottish course designer Mark McGowan who made the long trip to Thermal in California to build the AIG $1 million Grand Prix last weekend.

Some of the best riders in the world made up the 52 starters who tackled his course being reduced to just six with spectators on the edges of their seats right until the last rider stole the title, Egypt’s Nayal Nassar.

Back on home soil and The Cabin EC managed to run their three day show outside in the sunshine after months of snow.

Jodie Maher sold her top horse, Editor earlier this year but now has a super team of young horses coming through so it was no surprise to see her in a few line ups over the weekend.

Riding for equestrian performance, coach Sandie Robertson Jodie steered her seven-year- old Swedish bred mare Bem Bi Brai round to warm up with a win in an 80cm before featuring in a 90cm Open.

Jodie’s own Gavanta was double clear to win a Foxhunter while sister Rebecca was also double clear in another Foxhunter with Firenze.

Eventers were out in force polishing up for the forthcoming season. Aileen Ferrari was in the money with her own diminutive Storm Ahead Ted who also won a Discovery outright, the nine-year old Mister Superb mare Couldoran who won a 1.05m and Watermark, a 10-year-old by Tranquil Bay also earning his keep with two top two placings.

Vikki Wight hit form with her partner the 10-year-old Don Adelhede Z who won a Foxhunter, a 1.30m and would’ve made it three in a row if it had not been for a rub at the only pole he had all weekend.

College student Hannah Lowe has now registered her 146cms Foxy IV as a horse and looks to be shaking the senior ranks up already with two wins to their credit at the last Cabin show and a further two at this.

This time it was a Discovery and a 90cms Open that had their name on it.

Aimee Bell’s Cameron Poe jumped two classes and never touched a pole finishing second in Saturday’s 1.30m but returning the only double clear to win Sunday’s National 1.30m.
