LAMB FED on Scotland's heather hills has been given a marketing boost after a new scientific study found it to have health-giving properties.
Scientists found that lamb reared in heather pastures had nearly twice as much Vitamin E - an antioxidant closely associated with cancer prevention - than meat from more intensively reared animals.
The lamb also contained levels of unsaturated omega-6 fatty acids and omega-3 - which can benefit the heart - comparable with that of oily fish. The breed most likely to benefit from the news is the Blackface, which dominates on Scotland's heather terrain.
