Farmers in the driving seat of the business A group of farmers has unveiled ambitious plans to build a modern grain processing centre in Scotland, following claims that many farmer-owned and third party stores in Angus are failing local users and maltsters. The Angus Cereal Partnership plans to build and operate a state-of-the-art 90,000 tonne capacity facility adjacent to the Greencore Maltings, at Glenesk. Modelled on existing storage partnerships supported by Grainfarmers across the UK, including Aberdeen Grain and Camgrain, the farmer shareholders of the partnership will own the store, and the business will be run purely for their benefit. TRACTOR THEFTS POINTS TO IRELAND

Scottish police crossed the Irish Sea this week in pursuit of more than £60,000 worth of tractors, which were stolen from Perthshire, recently and are now working on positive lines of enquiry.

Simmental bulls enjoyed the best trade of the day at a multi-breed sale of pedigree beef cattle at Perth, on Monday, securing several of the top prices combined with the lead average for the highest number sold.

BRITISH BULL ENTERS THE RECORD BOOKS

A British dairy sire has entered the international record books by producing more sexed semen than any other bull in the world. Crichel Principal has notched up 116,000 straws of sexed semen in his lifetime so far, which his owners, Cogent, says puts him well ahead of his nearest rival. He combines that his 13th birthday this month.
