GIVING Ascot a run for its money, Peterborough will be hosting a crowd pulling racing event of its own this month – the Lamb National!

A new highlight of this year's Autumn Show at the East of England Showground, organisers are bringing the latest craze to the city.

There will be no holds baa-d as the agile runners – with names such as Red Ram, Sheargar and No Ewe Turns – will be racing around a specially-designed course at the Peterborough venue.

Visitors can cheer on their favourite woolly jumper, as the hardy Herdwick sheep - known for their agility – negotiate the course during the show on Sunday, October 14.

The event itself is the brainchild of professional sheep dog demonstrator Bob Hogg, who takes the Lamb National to family, farming and fundraising events around the country.

Bob said: "The sheep really seem to love it. They are particularly agile as they originate from the challenging terrain of the Lake District in Cumbria.

"The event is also very engaging for visitors too, and we are really looking forward to delighting the crowds at Peterborough's Autumn Show."

The Lamb National is among a number of new events for 2012 – which also include:
