VISITORS to this week’s Grassland and Muck event at Stoneleigh were the first in the UK to see Case IH’s latest mid-range tractors at work.
The Luxxum range has been tasked with bringing high specification to smaller tractors in its 99-117hp span. It does this by fitting the well-proven Multicontroller armrest and joystick concept; adding automatic powershift and fitting cab and front axle suspension to the popular-sized tractors.
The Luxxum 120 on show working at the event had a rated output of 117hp, while the Luxxum 100 and 110 models have 99 and 107hp, respectively.
All use new 3.4-litre four-cylinder engines from Case IH’s partner, FPT Industrial and Stage IV emissions are met via Hi-eSCR-only exhaust treatment.
A new 32F/32R automatic powershift transmission, with four powershift steps and eight ranges, gives 40km/h travel at 1730rpm. It also has adjustable powershuttle response and speed selection.
‘Auto field’ mode shifts through the lower 16 speeds, while ‘auto road’ mode moves the transmission through the higher 16 speeds. Each mode is operated via a single press of an armrest button, or through the speeds via buttons on the rear of the Multicontroller joystick.
Downhill safety is assisted by auto-mode’s ability to manually override upshifts and prevent heavy trailed loads from jack-knifing.
The front axle suspension has 80mm of movement and the damping is controlled via an accumulator and regenerative valve system. It can also raise or lower the tractor’s front-end via a console-mounted switch.
The Maxxum 145 CVX on show at Stoneleigh is one of 14 versions of the new series. They can come as standard, Multicontroller (MC) or CVX models, with 4.5-litre four-cylinder engines spanning 116-145hp – or 145-179hp with PTO/transport boost.
There is also a 6.7-litre six-cylinder 145/179hp alternative, the standard or MC Maxxum 150.
All their FPT Industrial NEF engines have SCR and diesel oxidation catalyst, but no diesel particulate filter.
Other upgrades include new lighting, a single-piece windscreen and a larger 650/65 R38 rear tyre option.
The latest HMC II headland management is easier to set, while CVX models can operate implements through Case IH’s AFS Isobus terminal. Where capable, implements can also control tractor functions such as forward speed and pto speed.
