Most farmers have heard of or used PRIDs, and the newly launched PRID® Delta new grip tail from Ceva Animal Health, promises to further improve cow fertility.

Available from vets, PRID Delta grip tail is the latest version of the progesterone device that was previously PRID Spiral (launched in 1980s) and PRID Spiral (launched in 2010).

According to Ceva Animal Health, the progesterone releasing devices assist herd performance by reducing calving interval, meaning a reduction in the number of days open. At the same time, this leads to an increase in the time a cow spends on the most productive part of the lactation curve, so optimising milk yield per cow per year.

“PRID Delta grip tail combines the well-liked features that already existed in PRID, higher progesterone release and the comfort that comes from the triangular delta shape, with a new and improved tail for easier removal of the product. The improved applicator is more robust and features a bevelled end, meaning it is more suitable for use in heifers,” explains Ceva’s Carol Atkinson.

Improving cattle fertility through synchronisation strategies can be an effective way to maximise milk yield per cow per year. They can help ensure age at first calving is 24 months, which has been proven to be the optimal to maximise milk yield in first lactation.

In the case of suckler herds, reducing calving to conception through synchronisation strategies could mean in some cases an extra calf could be produced in the lifetime of the suckler cow.

In a beef herd this also results in a more compact calving with a more even batch of calves for sale

PRID Delta grip tail can be used in beef cows, dairy cows and heifers which are cycling or non-cycling (anoestrus or cystic).

Ceva is also launching a new App to help farmers improve farm performance through better fertility management. The App will be made available to PRID users only. For access to the app and for further information on PRID DELTA grip tail contact your veterinary practice.
