Charol(l)ais cattle and sheep made their presence felt both in the cattle and in the sheep sections at a busy Perth Show, last weekend, winning their representative sections, but it was the cattle leader that was the overall choice of inter-breed judge, Alan Fotheringham, Craighall, Forgandenny.

Taking centre stage was Jack Nicol’s rising five-year-old cow, Mornity Audrey, a Balnuith Universe-sired cow, from Mornity Farms, Alyth. She was paraded with heifer calf at foot having already scooped the breed title at Alyth and Kirriemuir and the reserve honours at Angus.

In the beef section, she stood in front of the Limousin leader from Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw. His show stopper, which secured the same award at Turriff, was the seven-year-old French-bred cow, Ubonie, a Nenuphar daugther.

Graham McClymont, Cuil, Newton Stewart, found his top two sheep winners from the Charollais and Blackface lines, with the representive winners from each taking the champion and reserve honours in both the individual and the pairs sections.

Supreme overall for the second consectutive year was Robert and Maimie Paterson and son Robert’s Auchenlay Grace Too, which also took the same award at the Black Isle, last year. She also teamed up to win the pairs with a bought-in two-shear ram from Auchenlay.

Reserve individual was Tay and Torridan Estate’s home-bred Blackface gimmer which stood champion at Alyth and reserve at Braco. She was shown by shepherds Billy and Alan Braidy. The runner-up pairs however, also Blackfaces were from James Duncan Millar, Remony, Aberfeldy.
