A bumper show of livestock complete with a new poultry section with more than 600 birds saw Wigtown Show’s coveted overall champion of champions award go to the well-known Clydesdale mare, Hawkhill Katy from Johnny and Jacqueline Adamson.
No stranger to the silverware, their nine-year-old mare shown by Jacqueline already boasts numerous breed titles this year, having picked up seven championships last year.
John Dykes, immediate past chairman of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, found his reserve overall in the commercial champion, The Kaiser Chief from Alister and Liz Vance, Bridgehouse, Whithorn. Their 21-month-old home-bred Limousin cross bullock is another star performer having picked up the reserve beef honours at Stranraer.
The new inter-breed competition for the best pair of home-bred animals, judged by Andrew McConchie, Mains of Penninghame, was won by a Salers duo from Graham and Colin McClymont, Cuil, Palnure. This comprised of the two cows, Cuil Talula and Cuil Violet, brought out by Kit Porter.
