THERE WASN’T much glimpse of the nation’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, due to low cloud at this year’s Lochaber Show, but, for the most part, the day held dry for most of the proceedings.
Officials from the show said the gate was up 15% on last year, with about 1500 through the gates.
But some good stock was on display, none more so than the overall cattle champion, the Highland cattle winner from Richard and Jenny Schuster, from Duiletter, Glenstrae, Dalmally. Their six-year-old cow, Albanach Molach 4 of Glengkinglass had already been champion at a few shows this year, but also boasts a first from the Highland Show.
The Blackie section proved a crowd puller again and it was a new name on the top trophy in this section when young Fulton Ronald showed the winner off his grand-father and uncle’s Keilator Farm, at Crianlarich. This was a two-crop ewe by a Glengloy sire which had been a prize-winner at Killin the week before in the shepherds’ section.
