For the second consecutive year a home-bred Texel ewe shown by Brian and David MacTaggart, of Douganhill Farms, Castle Douglas, went straight to the top at Stewartry Show, claiming not only the inter-breed sheep but also the supreme overall champion of champions.
The ewe, by Hullhouse Ma Man and out of a home-bred ewe by Glenside King II, was on her first outing of the year having scooped the supreme sheep honours at Dumfries, last year .
The inter-breed judge, Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, found his choice of reserve overall in the best of a poorer than normal show of cattle breeds, the Galloway leader shown by John and Iain Finlay, Blackcraig, Corsock. This was the two-year-old heifer, Blackcraig Noreen P260 which notched up the reserve championship at the national show at Cumberland and the reserve female title at the Highland.
