The Thomson family’s prized North Country Cheviot flock from Hownam Grange, Kelso, again came to the fore at the Border Union Show last weekend, winning not only the breed section but also the inter-breed sheep honours and the inaugural champion of champions accolade.
Father and son team, Jim and Willie Thomson picked up supreme overall with their inter-breed sheep champion from the the Highland, a home-bred gimmer which was also breed champion at the Great Yorkshire.
The inter-breed judge, Jack Clark of John Swan auctioneers, found his reserve overall in the Aberdeen-Angus leader which first won the breed’s national show at Kelso before going on to lift the inter-breed beef honours. This was the 19-month-old bull, Netherton Focus, from Willie and Karen McLaren, Netherton, Blackford.
