BUILDING GROWTH in the Scottish beef processing sector is a pipe dream unless the industry can be given a workable CAP from the powers-that-be – and that must include some element that supports stock numbers.
That was the call this week from the Scottish Beef Cattle Association's executive director Brian Simpson, speaking ahead of this Saturday's annual conference of the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers.
Mr Simpson described SAMW's optimistic theme, 'Pursuit of Growth', as a very fine objective, but one that seemed at odds with the current harsh reality in the processing sector.
