THE WINNER of the use of Massey Ferguson's 5610 tractor as a result of the ground-breaking Antarctica2 project, Nancy Clanachan, from Maryholm Farm, Dumfries, has already put her win to good use around the farm.
Arriving just in time to help with silage work, the 5610 has been busy ever since for the farming family, which won the contest against competition form farmers in 33 countries. It became the first standard farm tractor equipped with tyres to reach the geographic South Pole overland and the Clanachans were announced as winners at the 2015 Royal Highland Show.
"My sons and grandchildren were really looking forward to the tractor's arrival - they couldn't believe it when I told them we'd won," said Nancie Clanachan, for her family which runs a 340-acre beef and sheep enterprise. "An extra tractor on the farm is a bonus. As well as silaging, the tractor will be fully-employed at harvest time, carting grain and baling straw. In later months, it will be used to spread muck and take silage to the cattle sheds."
The MF 5610 Antarctica2 Special Edition model is equipped with a super-deluxe air-suspended seat, mechanical cab suspension, six LED lights, 540/540E/1000 rpm pto and a high-spec' off-road audio entertainment system.
