JUDGING by a broad-based panel of public tasters produced a tie at the top of the ABP/ASDA steak competition at the Royal Highland Show.
The honours were shared by Ross Brothers, of Wardhead, Strichen, and D and V Buchan, of Savoch, Longside, Peterhead, who had provided steaks from, respectively, a U+3+ Aberdeen-Angus cross weighing in at 332kg, and a U-3+ Limousin cross weighing 325kg.
There was a clear result in second, where R Robb, of Woodhead of Aberdalgie, Perth, triumphed with his 371kg U+3- Charolais cross.
A hung decision for third, saw MW Jack, Carriston, Fife, with a U+3- Limousin, weighing 379kg, and H and K Brown, Auchmaliddie, Maud, with a U+3+ Limmy cross weighing 373kg, share the award.
From an initial 70 entries, 30 sirloins were selected and matured for 28 days, then whittled down to eight finalists, which were cooked on a blind tasting.
