IF YOU only need occasionally to roll whole grains into flakes for animal feed, then this new single-phase mini-flaker from Kelvin Cave might be the answer.

Its small cereal mill, called the KC Mini-Flaker, is a dry roller mill powered by a single-phase electric motor, making it suitable for use on the many premises across the UK that do not have access to three-phase power.

For processing any cereal or mixtures of cereals and pulses, such as peas, the mini bruiser has a 2.2 kW motor and an output of around half a tonne per hour (500-600kg/hour).

Simple to operate and easily adjustable to provide a roller pressure to suit the grain being used, the flaker has a unique configuration of helically-meshed rollers.

Kelvin Cave commented: “It will allow small-scale livestock producers or equine yards to make cost-effective use of either home-grown cereals such as oats or barley, or cereals purchased locally, often at a considerably lower cost than proprietary branded feeds."

It is priced at £2650, plus VAT.
