IN ONE of its most successful shows to date, the Ayrshire Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club’s annual rally had more than 120 tractors taking part.

Held at Whitefordhill Rural Centre, Ayr, last Sunday, the tractor line-up had a leaning towards Ford and Fordson tractors in celebration of the marque’s 100 years of production.

Another highlight was Jimmy McGhee’s display of 150 years of ‘Pollock of Mauchline’, showing a range of farm equipment and machinery.

As well as the farm-based exhibits, there were well more than 150 vintage cars and around 25 commercials, including Tom French’s superbly restored steam engine ‘Yorkshire Belle’, while Jim Smith also had a huge airport fire engine on parade. There was also a ‘plant’ section, with vintage JCB’s featuring.

Some of the club’s ladies made pancakes to sell on the day for charity, which brought donations totalling £250.

The events ring saw dog agility classes, a range of Ferguson TE20 tractors doing manoeuvres, including a Wuffler hay tedder in action, and a demonstration of a hayrick making machine, plus an unusual baler at work.
