The latest Claas Volto tedders and Liner rakes ranges are aimed at farmer users looking to run their own machinery and maintain control over this aspect of their silage and hay making rather than leaving it to giant contractor machines.

The Volto 55 tedder and Liner 320 rake bring features from the more advanced models in these ranges to the table further down the food chain, including advanced headstocks and drive systems.

The four-rotor tedder has a working width of 5.2m, making it ideal for spreading two swaths from mowers up to 3m wide cut. It uses Claas' Max Spread crop flow concept from the larger models – this tines angled by 29° to aid crop pick-up because of a longer sweep.

It also has a better crop flow through it, leading to a wider and more even spread pattern.

These spreading arms work for 65% longer than conventional tines and the increase in pick-up rate, thus allowing an increased forward speed.

Claas' CLK headstock transfers the weight of the machine onto the tractor’s lower linkages and ensures accurate following when turning. It is said to be safer on hilly terrain as it prevents the tedder from over-running when travelling downhill. When raised, it automatically centres the tedder and fixes it in position for transport, but the suspension system remains active for a smoother ride.

Another feature is the patented Permalink finger clutch at pivot points. These are maintenance free and allows the arms to be folded by up to 180 degrees for a compact transport width.

The four 1.5m diameter rotors have six heavy duty 10.5mm tines each, with hand adjustable spreading angle from 12-16°. For transport, the arms are folded hydraulically and locked in position and options include a guide wheel and edge-spreading guard.

The single-rotor Liner 320 completes has a working width of 3.2m. Its lightweight design makes it the ideal entry model for use with smaller tractors and in awkwardly shaped fields.

As with larger models, the rotor drive is sealed and continuously lubricated. It has eight tine arms, each with three, 9mm diameter spring tines that are clamped in place using a cotter pin. Working height is easily adjusted using a lockable hand crank.

It is carried on a single axle fitted with large 16/6.5-8 tyres, though a tandem axle is optionally available.

A U-shaped stabilising frame incorporating the three-point mounting to attach the rake, gives smooth contour following, even in difficult conditions and on hilly terrain. After removing some of the tine arms, it can be folded down to as little as 2.25m for transport or storage.
