THE smart-looking new baler from Pottinger certainly does 'Impress' – because that is its name.

Launched for this grass harvest, the balers are designed and built at Pottinger’s Austrian headquarters in Grieskirchen, the balers nomenclature hints at maximizing bale density and that's what its design feature aim to achieve.

The balers can come with either fixed or variable chamber and at the top of the tree is a new combination baler/wrapper.

The Impress has a cam track type pick up reel which has a lateral floating movement of 120mm and works either a 2 or 2.3m swath. For silage crops, there's also a slide out knife bank (Flexcut) of either 16 or 32 knives, giving a chop length of 72mm and 36mm.

The Liftup intake feed aims to optimise bale start and its four heavy-duty starter rollers are mounted two above and two below the chamber throat. The remaining rollers are lighter in weight to reduce total machine weight. An auto lube system is available as an optional extra.

Two baler control options are: 'Select' which needs two double acting spools and one free flow return; and 'Power' which is a full load sensing power beyond system.

Entry level model is the Impress 125 F Master, with a fixed chamber producing a 1.25m bale. The 'Pro' models have a higher spec and the shorter chop knife bank. F and V letters refer to fixed or variable chamber.

Bale pressure can be configured flexibly in three ways – for hay, this means that a soft core can be set to ensure optimum aeration and drying; while different densities can be scheduled for straw and silage.
