NEW HOLLAND is to turn to Selective Catalytic Reduction technology to reduce emmissions on its 100+ hp tractors so that they can meet tougher Tier 4A emmission regulations.

Tier 4A becomes a legal requirement in 2011 for medium and heavy-duty engines above 174hp (130 kW). NH’s version of SCR has been developed in partnership with Fiat Powertrain Technologies, which has already produced more than 100,000 truck engines that use SCR technology.

It is an exhaust treatment system that’s separate from the main engine function and does not compromise horsepower or torque. It uses a catalyst that treats the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas with an odourless mixture of chemical urea and purified water, transforming them into harmless water and nitrogen.

The system is easy to use and simply requires the operator to fill the additive tank.

NH will stick with Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (CEGR) for engines below 100hp.
