IT MAY have been inconceivable just a few years ago, but the world’s first commercially available ATV, the Polaris Ranger EV electric, side-by-side, is now available.
Sharing the same chassis as the Ranger 400, it still has on-demand all-wheel drive, independent rear suspension, high ground clearance and the longest suspension travel in its class, says Polaris.
The Ranger EV has an 11.5kW battery pack, featuring a 30 hp electric motor, 35-45 mile range, a 25mph top speed and two hours of riding time between charges.
The unit features three modes – ‘high’ for speed, ‘low’ for towing and hauling, and ‘max’ for maximum range. There is also a 567kg towing capacity and a 226.7 kg ‘Lock and Ride’ cargo box.
The 48-volt AC induction motor is charged using a standard electrical socket and the Ranger EV comes with a certified roll-over protection structure and offers 25.4 cm (10 inch) ground clearance.
This year will also see Polaris offering a Sportsman XP chassis re-design for the best-selling line of ‘two-up’ vehicles, a focus on value with the introduction of the Sportsman 500 HO Touring, and updates to the Trail Boss 330, Trailblazer 330 and Scrambler 500 4x4s.
