Proudly celebrating its 120th birthday on January 1, 2013, The Scottish Farmer is thought to be the oldest farming publication in the world, providing essential farming news and business data to aid farmers in the running of their businesses since 1893.

To mark this milestone, the January 5, 2013, issue will feature a 24-page Commemorative Supplement to launch the 120th birthday year.

The supplement will feature historical data, stories and pictures collected over the 12 decades.

Magazine Publisher, Darren Bruce said: "The Scottish Farmer acts as a publication of record for the Scottish farming industry. Through the last decade the printed magazine has become part of a multi-media environment, now backed with a digital e-edition, an informative award winning website, as well as social media communities which interact with our readers and drive audience to both print and web platforms. Everyone here at The Scottish Farmer is as passionate about the brand as our predecessors were 120 years ago and we look forward to many more years of unrivalled reporting."

Editor, Alasdair Fletcher, added: "We are delighted to be able to publish a taster of the evolution of The Scottish Farmer and the industry it serves in this special issue. The research for this supplement created much debate among our staff and I am sure it will create even more comment in farm steadings across the country."

Celebrate with us by purchasing your copy of our exclusive commemorative edition, available in shops on January 4, 2013, where extra copies will be made available.

Also in this issue will be a comprehensive guide to Scotland's agricultural shows and specialist livestock sales for the year ahead.

The Scottish Farmer is based in Scotland but covers industry news from across Britain and overseas, and is distributed throughout the UK. There is significant circulation in northern England and Northern Ireland. The Scottish Farmer also appeals to pedigree farm livestock breeders throughout the UK and Eire.

The Scottish Farmer is published by Glasgow based Herald and Times Group, publishers of The Herald, Evening Times, Sunday Herald, HeraldScotland.com and the s1 portfolio.
