BUOYED by its success since it returned to Lanark market, the Scottish National Fatstock Club's LiveScot show on November 26 is expanding to include classes for dairy cattle.
Former show chairman, Donald Harvey, told The SF, that 2015 was a good year for the club, with a tremendous Scottish Premier Meat Exhibition live-dead show, in conjunction with Scotbeef and supported by Marks and Spencer, plus a well-supported LiveScot event.
"We made a small profit while donating more than £2500 to charities, and our sale was the best in the country, with our cattle champion from Donald McPherson and John Currie selling for £6800 to a butcher from Yorkshire," he said.
This success prompted the SNFC's trustees, led by new chairman, Hugh Dunlop, Holehouse, Cumnock; his vice-chairman John Bannatyne, Drumalbin, Biggar, and secretary Margaret Gray, to 'add value' to this year's show in November.
A dairy section – which was part of the show in the early 1990s – is being resurrected after discussions with Willie Bryson and his committee in the Lanarkshire Holstein Club, which also used to have its own show.
This open show will be held in the main ring during the lunch hiatus of the beef judging and will encompass all dairy breeds, with mature cattle to the fore, said My Harvey.
Also planned is a show of Bluefaced Leicester ewe lambs, following on from the success of the Blackface and Mule sections last year, plus a Texel in-lamb gimmer sale, with consignments from Milnbank, Millar’s, Sportsman's, Strawfrank, Cowal, Strathbogie, Plasucha and Glenside, following the success of Beltex Scotland’s female sale.
An open poultry show will also be held.
