POLICE Scotland are seeking information about an unusual farm crime – the theft of 230 rare ducks from a farm in the Mearns area of Laurencekirk.

The ducks were stolen from a shed on the farm at the weekend, and were described as having an estimated four-figure value.

PC Marc Camus of Laurencekirk Police said: “Due to the number of ducks taken it is believed that a vehicle similar in size to a pick-up truck or transit van would have to been used to transport the ducks.

"We are still trying to establish the breed of the ducks taken but they are not common and difficult to source. They may therefore be offered for sale to other poultry farmers.”

A police spokesperson said the farmer involved had asked not to be identified.

Anyone with information can call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
