PIG racing, ferret racing and demonstrations of traditional country skills are just part of the entertainment line-up visitors can expect at the National Museum of Rural Life’s Country Fair.

Taking place at the East Kilbride attraction on Sunday, September 4, the day out will let families learn about stockjudging and have a chance to test their new skills on the Ayrshire cows, calves and Tamworth pigs of the museum’s 1950s working farm.

A small poultry show will display various breeds of hens and ducks, and visitors will be able to watch a horse being shod in a demonstration of farriery skills. There’ll even be a chance for visitors to have a go at operating a two or seven-tonne digger or a Fastrak tractor

Also included in the day is a display by the Border Collies and Indian Runner Ducks of the Dog and Duck Show, while stalls will showcase local organic fruit, vegetables and other produce.

Museum general manager Shirley Maciver said: “Our Country Fair features a whole host of farmyard favourites, animal antics and traditional rural skills in a fun-filled day of entertainment for all the family. It’s a great day out and a fantastic and engaging way to learn about Scotland’s rich rural heritage.”
