IT HAS been reported that three cattle calves have died after somehow getting loose on the A9 near Pitlochry.

According to local witnesses, the cattle were first spotted on the road around 4am this morning. A further 10 of the stray herd have since been gathered up and are currently being held at a nearby farm.

Two of the dead animals were hit by a car, which is claimed to look like it will be written off, while another bullock or heifer was was later put down for being a danger to the public.

Three of the ear tag numbers found on the cattle were UK501415 600428, UK501445 200211 and UK508589 600069. As a result of local farmers making contact with BCMS, it is now believed the cattle belong to an Aberfeldy farmer, but this has not yet been confirmed.

It is also thought the cattle are spring calves, weighing around 180kg, which were bought at a sale in Skye yesterday. A local vet is currently trying to contact the owners. Further updates will be provided once an official police statement becomes available.
