PROTECTING your property from fire and theft will be the main focus of a NFU Scotland free information day taking place at Gledpark Farm, Borgue, in Dumfries and Galloway, on September 29.

Organised in conjunction with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland, SP Energy Networks and NFU Mutual, attendees will be able to chat to representatives to get advice about their individual needs.

There will be a walk around the farm to provide practical tips regarding fire prevention and risk management, as well as safety advice for working in the vicinity of power lines.

NFUS’s regional vice chairman for Dumfries and Galloway, and host farmer for the event, Rupert Shaw, commented: “This practical walk and talk event will gives farmers the opportunity to receive valuable and practical advice to ensure their property is safeguarded against the potential of fire and theft.

“Our farms are laid out with the movement of livestock, machinery and storage of dangerous items for convenience – sadly this makes many vulnerable to opportunity thefts and other incidents.

“Having met with some of the victims of such crime in our region, I'm very keen to support an event that will see the region’s emergency services guide attendees through simple practical measures to reduce risk."

NFUS members who would like to attend should call 0131 472 4000 to book a place.
