AYRSHIRE YOUNG Farmers' tug-of-war team took home bronze after making it to Malmo, Sweden, for the world outdoor championships – the first time a Scottish team has ever taken a medal home from a world outdoor championship.

Competing in a number of categories, the team put forward entries for the senior women 500kg, the senior women 540kg, and one of their team members, Ross Henderson, also competed alongside Cornhill in the men's 640kg.

The ladies in the senior 540kg team finished fourth in the league of eight, drawing with Chinese Taipei in the semi final. Going on to be almost pulled back across the line by Kilroe, from England, they eventually managed to take the rope back in the second end, and took the bronze.

In order to get to this championship, Ayrshire won four ladies weights at Scottish nationals, and then won gold in the 520kg and the 560kg at the British and Irish championships, as team Scotland A.

The team would like to express thanks to their sponsors, who helped fund the trip; Bonanza calf nutrition, J and S Montgomery, Henry Bennett, Craig Wilson Ltd, WM Smith, A J Craig, The Cannyman, Saltire tags - J M Anderson, S and S Services and Ayrshire Plant Services.

They would also like to thank everyone who came along to various fundraising events the team held, which all went towards making their trip possible.
