RURAL PAYMENTS and Inspections officer Laura Mitchell has been awarded a grant to attend the 27th Commonwealth agricultural conference in Singapore in November.

Laura, 24, of Mount Pleasant Farm, Berwick upon Tweed, will be funded by the Border Union Agricultural Society to join 400 delegates from thirty nations at the conference, which is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth.

Delegates will also be joined by the RASC president, Princess Anne, at the event, which takes place between November 2 to November 4, to discuss global issues such as food security, sustainability and bridging the rural-urban divide in agriculture.

Commenting on the award, Laura said: "I am delighted to be awarded a study grant from the BUAS to attend the conference. I am looking forward to networking with like minded people who are also involved in the agricultural industry.

"It is a hugely exciting industry to be involved in, and I am hoping that the conference will broaden my knowledge of the industry at a wider level, and provide inspiration from other commonwealth countries as to how they are addressing the rural-urban divide."
