SCOTLAND should be leading the way in ensuring statutory nutritional standards must be adhered to on all NHS foods.
This should be a no brainer for ScotGov. Our hospital patients deserve the best care they can possibly get, and nutrition is obviously a big part of any care programme.
However, it is not just on nutrition that hospital food should be judged. In many cases, the nutritional value of hospital food is adequate, but the palatability is nothing short of abysmal.
Indeed, many doctors, nurses and other hospital staff wouldn’t contemplate eating at home some of the stuff they have to all too often serve up to patients.
Sourcing local quality Scottish farm produce and preparing it properly isn’t rocket science and should be mandatory in our hospitals and care homes.
