A UNIQUE charity auction saw United Auctions’ sale ring at Stirling packed to the brim to raise life-changing money for Doreen Cormack’s stem-cell treatment, last Sunday.

Doreen, who has had multiple sclerosis for more than 15 years, has been accepted for stem-cell treatment in Mexico – a treatment not available in this country – and the auction staged prior to the bull sales at Stirling, saw in excess of £77,000 raised.

The sale, which included many donations of livestock, embryos and semen from a range of breeds donated by top breeders, saw a top bid of £10,000 paid for a choice of a pedigree Aberdeen-Angus in-calf heifer from John and Marion Tilson and their daughter, Wanda Hobbs’ Wedderlie herd, at Gordon, Westruther. Mohsin Altajir's Highland Wagyu, Dunblane, put in the final bid.

Raising £8000 was Doreen and her husband, Alistair's choice cow and calf donated by Colin and Pam Davidson's Orkney-based Skaill herd in the form of Skaill Tibbie N812. Robbie Galloway, bought this three-year-old cow, which sold with her second calf at foot by Rawburn Jackson Eric and in calf to Milah Murrah Kingdom.

Dearest embryo at £2100 was an entry gifted by Harry and Lynwen Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, purchased by the Hughes Brothers, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesburgh.

This was an embryo from the French cow, Ubonie, which has bred bulls to 37,000gns and 16,500gns and sired by either Elite Forever, Ampertaine Elgin or Plumtree Fantastic.

Choice Aberdeen-Angus genetics packages on offer included embryos from Wall Lady Ruth E397, by Rawburn Elysium, gifted by Richard and Carol Rettie, Alloa, which sold to £1600 to Russell Taylor for his Moncur herd.

Alistair and Doreen were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of people and said they will be eternally grateful to all who helped out. Further donations are still being accepted with a raffle for the fund being drawn at LiveScot at Lanark, at the end of November.
