WINNING THE Scottish Association of Young Farmers' Club's west are bale art competition was Crossroads Young Farmers, with bales made into the shape of two teddy bears, one pink and one black.

Tasked with the decision was Edinburgh Rugby’s Duncan Weir, who then placed Biggar YFC in second place, with Thornhill YFC coming third.

Commenting on the compeition, and its success, current west area chairman, Suzie Dunn, explained: "I’m absolutely over the moon with the uptake and efforts from all the clubs.

"It’s a pretty unique way to promote and advertise young farmers, and what we are all about.

"The interest on social media has been phenomenal, with everyone sharing photographs of the sculptures.

"We had a whale, sweets, a castle, a tractor, a pig, two teddy bears, diggers, a milk tanker, a bee and a highland cow!"

Dunn plans to make the competition even bigger in 2017, She explained: "Following this year’s success, I hope to roll the competition out at national level, so all of our 80 clubs can get involved and we can showcase SAYFC across the whole of Scotland."
