CHEVIOT EWES crossing the River Blackwater from a rented seasonal grazing back home to David and Elizabeth Stewart's Mains of Dalrulzion, in a spectacular picture sent in by Elizabeth over the holidays.

The Stewarts normally trailer the sheep round, but as the Bleaton Hallet bridge was washed away in the 2016 flood, this wasn't possible in time for tupping. To save a 40-mile road trip by Blairgowrie and Alyth, a neighbour had very kindly allowed them access through his land all summer, so Davie decided to try bringing the ewes home by the more direct route.

Misty the sheepdog wasn't too impressed with this plan, but worked very well on the day. However Elizabeth reckoned this exercise will be a one-off, as the bridge has now been replaced.
