VINTAGE farm machinery enthusiast Bill Allan has updated us on the restoration of this old ruck maker that he found on the Carse of Stirling.
The original design, patented in 1917, was land driven, but this example – in use up til the 1970s – had been altered to power drive. Last year, Bill was on a quest to find some original cogs that could be used to reverse that conversion in time to show the machine on the 100th anniversary of its patent.
Unfortunately, none were forthcoming, so he has used spare cogs from his Green Crop Loader to do the job, while leaving the PTO in place on to demonstrate how it was modernised.
Bill plans to take the machine to as many shows as possible this year, especially Fife, as it is having a special vintage rally
