RSABI's Great Glen Challenge 2017 is to be formally launched at the Royal Highland Show, heralding the start of fundraising for the much-anticipated event on Friday August 25.

Now in its sixth year, having raised over £112,000 in 2015 and 2016 to help those in need throughout rural Scotland, the 2017 event's capacity entry of 25 teams will be rallied for the launch on the RSABI stand at the RHS. Sponsored once again by solicitors Ledingham Chalmers. the challenge is also supported by a range of partners including The Scottish Farmer, Royal Bank of Scotland, Galbraith and Bank of Scotland, all of which have fielded teams.

Established as an exciting one day team challenge for rural businesses and organisations, GGC17 will involve teams of four people competing against each other, cycling, kayaking, walking and running along designated stages between Fort Augustus and Fort William, covering a continuous 46 km route through stunning scenery, towards a prize-giving reception at Neptune’s staircase at the end of the route.

RSABI’s Paul Tinson, who co-ordinates the event, said: “It’s fantastic to witness such strong continuing support for RSABI Great Glen Challenge and we are delighted to welcome a selection of new teams to the fold as we launch the fundraising phase this summer.

“With a full complement of teams already signed up, fundraising now begins in earnest. Please give generously and extend a huge welcome to new teams such as SAC Consulting Solutions, Pagan Osborne and Soil Essentials."

With continued volatility and uncertainty for farmers across the country, RSABI has experienced a surge in demand for its services in recent times, at an average cost to the charity of £500,000 each year.
