ASDA'S extra special steak tasting challenge was won by William Nelson, of West Brackley Farm, Kinross, who took the top prize out of the shortlist of nine selected from a field of 100 entries.

Held in the supermarket's stand at the Royal Highland Show, the nine steaks were cooked by the supermarket's specially selected chef, who seasoned them with salt and rapeseed oil, and cooked them medium-rare. The steaks were all provided by ABP food group, Perth.

Three chefs were assigned the task of selecting their favourite steak, via a points system, in which they were required to have a taste of each steak, and then score it accordingly.

The competition usually has six finalists, but this year it was stretched to nine, due to the higher number forward in the initial rounds.

Mr Nelson, whose entry was a Limousin steer, said he was "delighted" to receive the award, and commented: "I would just like thank ABP and Asda for all of their support – it is very much appreciated!"
