THE NEW chief executive of the Pony Club is Rhian Gibson, who comes from having transformed the sport of gymnastics in Wales.

She grew gymnastic membership from 7600 to more than 25,000 in five years and the number of clubs has grown from 76 to 99, with 10 medals won in gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games.

She will now be based at the Pony Club’s office at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, working with the board of trustees, committees and volunteers, to deliver the key responsibilities of financial management, sponsorship, training, health and safety and safeguarding.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining the Pony Club. I believe my experience in successfully running Welsh Gymnastics – a volunteer based organisation, growing its membership and profile – along with my passion for all things equestrian will provide me with a great foundation to lead and grow the club.”

Having ridden from the age of five, Rhian has a deep passion for horses. Prior to joining Welsh Gymnastics had a career in broadcasting and media as deputy head of news and current affairs with BBC Wales and director of commissioning for S4C.
