A COMMERCIAL cow and calf outfit was awarded the champion of champions title at another warm and sunny Dalkieth Show, on Saturday.

The October-born Charolais-sired bullock and his Limousin cross mother from the Ross family at Wester Middleton, Gorebridge, was awarded the top title by Scott Lambie, who said: "You won't see a better Charolais cross bullock calf anywhere, his mother is a fantastic cow and they make a worthy champion."

In reserve for the overall was the supreme from the sheep lines, a three-crop Blackie ewe from the Kennedy family at Mitchellhill, Kilbucho. Making her show debut one to remember, she is by a £4500 Mitchelhill and out of a ewe by an £8000 Dyke.

Standing reserve to her in the sheep lines was the Texel leader from the Grays' Ettrick flock at Lindean, Selkirk. Another on her first outing, she is by Shannagh Won-o-Won and out of the top breeding ewe in the flock, a Rainbow Warrior daughter.

Getting a special mention from Mr Lambie during the overall judging was the dairy leader and handler, Cauldcoats Zero Lavender led by six-year-old John Redpath.

Also forward for the supreme was the Clydesdale leader, Millisle Cracker from Hugh Ramsay and Allan Craig, as well as the overall light horse champion, L McGowan's seven-year-old Welsh Section B brood mare, Tygolau Chardonnay, which was shown with her three-moth-old filly foal at foot.
