MEMBERS of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland under the age of 40 are being offered the chance to go on an all expenses paid study tour to South Africa.

Leaving the UK on August 29, and taking place over 12 days, the tour comes as part of the RHASS' commitment to young people in agriculture, and will be hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth's next generation programme.

The itinerary includes visits to a fruit farm, grain farm, vegetable farm, a tour of the Biedouw Boer goat stud, visits to an Angus cattle farm and Mutton Merino Sheep farm, a tour of a tea factory, a visit to a game resort and travel by mule cart to see how donkeys are used for ploughing and harvesting.

RHASS chief executive, Alan Laidlaw, commented: "RHASS is fully committed to investing in the next generation of progressive and outward thinking farmers, and is delighted to offer this amazing opportunity to visit South Africa.

"The experiences gained could be truly life changing and I encourage anyone under 40 to make the time to apply and give themselves the chance of an adventure of a lifetime."

Anyone interested should contact 0131 335 6235, or email aprilm@rhass.org.uk, to request an application form. All applicants must have a valid UK passport. The deadline for applications is July 24, and the successful applicant will be notified by the end of July.
