ALL the plans for the Orr-Dun wedding were fully in place and Friday, June 30 was shaping up to be a fairy tale day in the Scottish Borders.

For bride and groom Agnes and Andrew, and their family and friends, it was ready to be a 'right guid ferming wedding', but, after the marquee had been put up at Agnes’ parent’s house just outside Grantshouse, heavy rain on the Thursday morning caused the river Eye to burst its banks in the afternoon, leaving the whole set up – including tables, decorations, and flowers – under a substantial amount of water.

As the fate of the couple's wedding hung in the balance, the local farming community rallied, and the decision was made to relocate to a shed at nearby East Preston Farm.

After a few more phone calls were made to family and friends, a team of 70 people were there to ferry the whole contents of the marquee individually through the water, which was now up to your knees, and up the hill into a Crailing Tofts Potato lorry, which had very kindly been provided to transport everything to East Preston.

The toilets, the bar and alcohol, 16 tables, all the cutlery, glasses, table decorations, marquee decorations, flower arrangements, lectern and microphone, were all loaded up – albeit a tad wet and soggy – and taken to the new venue.

Even more friends met at East Preston to help unload and begin the monumental task of setting everything up again. The marquee company, Best Intent, removed the marquee lining from the flooded site, and along with some new carpet, put it all up in the shed.

Catering company, Gary Moore, were also able to re-set all the tables, and at approximately 1.30am on Friday morning, the shed was transformed into the most beautiful setting and the dream wedding venue that the couple deserved.

Maybe not your ideal ‘night before your wedding’ activity, but with the help of friends and family, everything came together to help make the whole day possible.

Andrew and Agnes would like to thank both Best Intent and Gary Moore Catering for all that they did, and say the biggest 'thank you' to every single family member and friend that came that day/night and helped – without them, their big day just would not have been possible!
