NEVER MIND the Tour De France, Hawksland Hill in Lanarkshire was the centre of wheeled excitement last weekend, as various daredevils – including several farming teams – competed in the annual bogie race, raising both pulses and money for charity.
Hosted by Elaine and Donald Sommerville, along with the Hawksland community committee, the event featured a variety of homemade, unpowered contraptions careering down the 800metre course, with no major injuries recorded, and a whopping £955 raised for three charities – Childline, Mercy Ships and Erskine.
Pictured here at the silage pit starting line are, from left, Paul Janson, driving 'Nae Cost 3' on behalf of Team Rooket; the 'Gas Monkeys' Angus and Jamie MacPherson; Iain Rooney driving 'Nae Cost 4', also of Team Rooket; David and Luana McAteer and Colista Cummings with the 'Cheesy Bogie'; Stevie and Catriona Rolfe of the SR Cattle Services team; Chris Webster and his 'Night Fury'; Dale Harrison, of Dale’s Devastating Drainpipes;
and Iona, Mike and Maggie (in the bogie) Taylor of Legow.
