Clydesdale JIM and Charlotte Young, secured a second breed championship out of three at the Yorkshire, taking this year’s top ticket with the three-year-old roan mare, Crossmakeever Avril.

The father and daughter duo led the way with an Irish-bred daughter of Carnaff Perfection, that stood champion at Ayr and first at the Highland, this year.

In a double win for the Scots, John ‘Speedy’ McMillan, Bute, lifted the runner-up trophy with the second prize winner to the champion, Mill Miss Keriin, a four-year-old by Dillars Scottie Boy out of a Millisle Solway Bay-sired mare. Champion at Northumberland, this bay was also reserve at Ayr.

Highland Dumfriesshire-based Mrs Gillian McMurray, Lockerbie, also enjoyed a good day amongst the Highland ponies, bagging the reserve honours with the 10-year-old mare, Trailtrow Lille, by Dunedin Marksman.

Brought out by Gillian’s daughter Kirstin and shown lightly as a youngster, she is bred from the Rummlegairie of Trailtrow daughter, Trailtrow Tilliwhillie.

Breed champion was Ms C Kinsley’s dun colt, Mannochmore of Millfield, a two-year-old by Glenmuir Lochaber, from Norfolk.

Shetland Making it two from two in the Shetland section was John Watson’s Kerloch Rupert which stood champion here last year.

The nine-year-old Stow Review son has also been supreme Shetland at the National Stallion Show twice.

Turnouts The Youngs’ Percheron geldings, Buck and Jim, continued their winning form to take the championship turnout ticket.

Scots did well as the McMillans won the ladies’ cart class as well as the team of four to take reserve honours, while Hugh Ramsay and JD Walker were also in the tickets in the ladies’ cart and pairs classes.
