LIMOUSIN crosses led the price per kg at United Auctions’ sale of 427 store cattle, where a 295kg heifer from West Park led the trade at 281.4p and a 164kg bullock from Knollhead made 265.2p.
Leading the gross trade at £1380 was a 628kg Beef Shorthorn bullock from Crookedstone Muir, while heifers also reached £1320 for a 598kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Bencloich. 
The 220 bullocks averaged 236.79p with 168 heifers at 229.28p, while 39 dairy bullocks averaged 179.29p and peaked at 189.8p and £1010 for Holstein crosses from Mains. 
The 89 cast cows levelled at 147.22p having sold to 199.6p for an Angus cross from Easter Frew and £1490 for a Simmental cross from Beeches. Eight dairy cows reached 147.9p from Newpark and £955 from Aitkenhead to average 114.4p.

Carlisle
THREE individual Limousin cross bullocks from Mr Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie, topped Harrison and Hetherington’s recent sale of 405 store cattle when they were knocked down for £1435 apiece. 
A pure-bred Limousin from Messrs Moscrop, Ryeclose, Brampton, led the heifers at £1380. 
A smaller show of 142 weanlings reached £1170 and £1160 for two Limousin bulls from Messrs Watson, Sanders Close. Aberdeen-Angus from Hallfoot led the bullocks at £1105 twice and heifers at £870 five times. 
On Monday, the firm held its opening sale of store lambs which met a good trade and left vendors happy with returns. They reached £75.50 for a pen of nine Texel cross lambs from Waverhead.

STORE cattle met a strong trade throughout at Harrison and Hetherington’s recent sale, where Aberdeen-Angus cattle from Whitfield topped the bullock trade at £1490 while heifers sold to £1435. 
A Charolais cross bullock from Messrs Morton, Kaeside, topped the price per kg at 291.9p with heifers to 255.6p for Limousins from Greenknowe. 
Bullocks cashed in at 237.6p or £1014.77, with heifers at 232.5p or £959.23.
A small entry of breeding cattle peaked at £1520 for in-calf Aberdeen-Angus cross cows from Messrs Dalton, Millrighall.

Thainstone
BREEDING cattle met a fast trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 26, where a Simmental cow with bull calf at foot from Barns, Crathes, topped the female entry at £2000. 
Charolais crosses from Burnside of Whitefield, Forglen, led the store cattle section at 305.4p per kg for a pair of 298kg bullocks and 287.4p for a pair of 254kg heifers. 
A 540kg Simmental cross from Tullochgribban Mains, Dulnain Bridge, led the gross trade at £1250, and heifers also reached £1230 for a 540kg Limousin cross from Lachlanstrype, New Pitsligo. 
The 45 bullocks averaged 229.3p with 65 heifers at 230.5p, while the 10 bulls sold to 263.2p and £1300 for Limousin crosses from Drumforber, Laurencekirk. 
Also on offer were 805 store sheep, where continentals with singles from Sunnyside Meikle Wartle led the 41 breeding sheep at £80. 
Store lambs (14) reached £87 for Texel crosses from Craiglands, Lonmay, and more Texel crosses from Skilmafilly, Auchnagatt, led the 750 feeding ewes and rams at £123.50.

MORE forward stores were present and all classes were in demand due to a lack of numbers at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 107 store cattle. 
They peaked at £1345 for Limousin bullocks from No 6 Howes, with more of the same from Belridding leading the price per kg trade at 275.1p. 
Heifers reached £1235 for British Blues from Gimmenbie and 248.2p for Limousins from Belridding. 
The 63 bullocks levelled at 232.9p while 36 heifers averaged 220.7p.

TRADE was strong throughout Darlington Farmers’ Mart’s sale of store and breeding cattle, where another consignment from the dispersing High Hedley Hope Farm herd from Tow Law peaked at £1650 for a four-year-old British Blue cow with five-month-old heifer calf at foot. 
Young bulls reached £1380 for a pure 16-month-old Charolais from WA Stephenson, Crawleas, Leasingthorne, while cattle from DC Dent, East Whorley Hill, Winston, topped the store trade at £1190 for a Hereford bullock and £1160 for a Limousin heifer. 
A good show of 85 cast and OTM cattle levelled at 131p and saw cows reach 179p for a four-year-old Limousin from P and E Ellis, Lisern, Welbury, and £1460 for an eight-year-old British Blue from DA and MAM Brown, Agglethorpe Hall.

A GOOD entry of cattle for the time of year met the dearest trade so far at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 546 store cattle. 
They reached 298p per kg for Limousin heifers from Craigievern, Balfron Station, with heifers also hitting £1230 for a Limousin from Holm Park, Ballantree. 
Bullocks also reached £1230, this time for Charolais from East Kerse, Lochwinnoch, as well as 275p for Simmental crosses from Langholm, Campbeltown. 
In all, beef-bred bullocks averaged 229p with heifers at 220p, while dairy bullocks averaged 174p and reached 200p and £1060 from Holm Park.
