AS the North-east show circuit continues, exhibitors and spectators alike are looking ahead to the next big event on the calendar – Turriff Show on Sunday and Monday, July 30 and 31.

The two-day show kicks off with horse and pony classes on the Sunday, as well as Young Farmers’ tug-of-war and a number of races for all ages, with the livestock classes all taking place on the Monday. The show includes no fewer than 10 cattle breed sections, with additional carcase cattle classes and a young bull inter-breed competition.

A similar number of sheep sections are also on display boosted by the split of the Bluefaced Leicester breed into traditional types and crossing types, as well as accredited and non-accredited any other breed classes.

The show also welcomes the Scottish National show of Ryeland sheep, which is to be judged by Ronald Wilkie, Tillyboy, Echt, as well as the Bluefaced Leicester Progeny Show where Gordon MacKenzie, from Broomhill, Muir of Ord, will place the traditional section and Mrs Hazel McNee, of Over Finlarg, Tealing, will be in charge of selecting the crossing types.

As well as plenty of livestock the Kangaroo Kid quad bike stunt team will be putting on several performances in the main ring, as will the Drakes of Hazard sheepdog display team.

There will be a food fayre promoting the very best of predominantly Scottish food and drink, an indoor shopping mall, art and craft marquee and more than 250 outdoor trade stands. Local pipe bands will be putting on a show for spectators and there will be a dog show each day, with entries taken on the day.

Judging kicks off at 8.30am on both days, with the show gates open earlier at 7am. There is a full programme of events throughout each day.
