MILK RECORDING organisation the Cattle Information Service has promoted Janette Mathie, who has been with the business for 29 years, from regional manager to head of field services.

Starting as a contractor, Janette has worked her way up the ranks, taking on the position of regional manager in the north of England and Scotland – covering from Perthshire to Lincolnshire. During her career with CIS, she has played a crucial part in developing CIS services in England, Wales and across Scotland, and provided extensive staff training, especially after the foot-and-mouth epidemic of 2001. Her training has extended into Northern Ireland and even Malta, where she has also been influential in recruiting new CIS farms.

Ms Mathie said: “A fundamental part of my job will be communicating with our regional managers and field staff to determine the needs of our customers and ensure that CIS can provide the most relevant services to help farmers improve their business performance, herd welfare and ultimately profit. I am thoroughly looking forward to the challenge of this new position and the demands of coordinating activity among the regional managers.”

CIS offers a range of services for dairy farmers providing data to make informed decisions about current and future herd performance, focussing on breeding, health, management and profit. By helping to identify herd strengths and weaknesses through data analysis, milk sampling, health testing, cell count and genomics, CIS aims to help farmers improve both physical and financial performance. Its UKAS approved laboratory in Telford, Shropshire processes over 4 million milk samples per year.

Managing director Sue Cope: “Janette’s knowledge of the dairy industry and understanding of the business’ processes makes her the ideal person to lead the field team and further promote our portfolio of services for farmers.”
