TWO-THIRDS of the pre-registered buyers went on to buy a ram at the on-farm sale of shearlings at Hans Porkens’ Gallowshill, which was conducted by Scott Lambie, Selkirk.
It was the first lot through the ring that topped the sale when Andrew Elliot, from Blackhaugh, Clovenfords, Galashiels, paid £2600 for a Suffolk.
He sold with a high EBV, being sired by the home-bred stock sire, Hans Fokker 95, which has performed well in the AHDB Ramcompare trial.
Texels reached £900 selling to Reavley Farm, Powburn, Northumberland, for a high indexed ram, and Beltex tups reached £450.
averages:
12 Suffolk shearlings, £823; eight Texel shearlings, £700; seven Beltex cross shearlings, £375. Overall, 28 shearlings, £676.
