A PEN from Professor Penny, Harehead, claimed the champion ticket before selling for the top price at a show and sale of Blackface wedder lambs at Harrison and Hetherington’s St Boswells centre.
They topped the Blackie section at £61 when sold to the judge, Paul Proudley, of Proudley Farms, while the second prize pen from Kirktonhill made £55 and the third pen from Upper Hindhope realised £53.50.
Blackies met a two-tier trade as strong, forward lambs averaged £48.09 with longer keep lambs at £30.20.
It was, however, Beltex lambs from Edston that topped the store lamb trade, and breed averages included Beltex at £66.50; Suffolk, £56.94; Texel, £62.77; Mule, £53.92; North Country Cheviot, £50.03; South Country Cheviot, £54.
