PROLONGED wet weather has resulted in a potential shortage of good quality fodder for some Northern Irish farms, prompting the province's agricultural college, CAFRE, to organise a series of farmer meetings to provide guidance on how best to manage feeding over the coming months.

Senior technologists will explain how to assess fodder stocks and review the options available to cope with limited supply, whether that be to reduce stock or replace fodder with alternative feeds. They will also look at the relative value of purchased fodder/feed and the effect this may have on financial margins.

There will also be a vet on hand to outline health and welfare issues that might arise – and the best way to prevent them. Rural Support will be present at all the events to outline the services and support it can provide to farmers affected by the prolonged wet weather.

The meetings will take place at 7.30pm at the following venues and dates:

• Omagh, Silverbirch Hotel, Monday November 20;

• Enniskillen, Enniskillen Campus, CAFRE, Thursday November 23;

• Coleraine, Lodge Hotel, Tuesday November 28.

All farmers are welcome to attend – and there is no pre-enrolment required.
