Reporting a three-fold rise in crisis calls to its 'Gatepost' phone service in the last month alone, the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution pointed the finger of blame at the 'brutal' behaviour of agri-bankers.
In a festive broadside, RSABI chief executive Maurice Hankey said that much of the upsurge in distressed farmers seeking advice, or at least comfort, had been triggered by bankers' decisions.
