Election fever

IT MAY not be Obama versus Romney but it could be equally nail-biting – an NFU Scotland election at the union's centenary agm and council meeting on February 12 next year.

The clock is now ticking on nominations for the position of president and the two vice presidential posts, with a closing date of Monday, December 17.

The Scottish Farmer can reveal that union president Nigel Miller's hat will be in the ring for another term at the helm, and vice-president Alan Bowie will also stand for re-election to the VP post – but John Picken, the other current vice-president, has indicated that he will either take on Mr Miller for the top job or call it a day.
